My Learning Plan
What is your long term goal and/or career pathway?
Mastery in whatever is most valued and rewarded by the web development industry. I know I want to work with integrity, focus, and to gain trust. Note to self to do more research on career paths to have a clearer end in mind.
What do you think your biggest strengths and limitations will be in Bootcamp?
My biggest limitation will be my capacity. I often feel cloudy, or tired, or sleepy. However, I will work on using my new learning about the growth mindset, and new perspective that effort is promising, rewarding and fun to cultivate healthy habits that increase my energy and capacity.
My biggest strength will be the ease with which I learn, focus on, and enjoy programming, as I've found during Foundations.
What do you think your biggest non-technical challenge at Bootcamp will be?
My capacity. My energy. Sleep. Exercise. Not having a cloudy head, or keeping a clear head.
What non-technical skills - human skills - would you like to see developed in yourself while at Dev Academy?
Discipline. Being able to stick to a routine, a schedule, and maintaining healthy habits that keep my energy up. Assertive, helpful, and compassionate communication. Meeting deadlines.
What are your expectations from the Bootcamp team?
I expect the Bootcamp team to create an energising, compassionate and safe environment.
To me, support looks like approaching when I look distressed, checking in with me regularly, and letting me know about important things I'm overlooking. For the last point, for example, pointing out if I look tired, or how I can improve my technical skills.
I would appreciate unconditional gentleness and compassion.
What are your expectations of yourself on Bootcamp
I expect myself to follow a strict sleep schedule every night. To go to every class. To ask for help if I'm stuck and can't see a way forward, or can only see a very fuzzy and windy way forward. To reflect at the start and end of each week for 20 minutes.
My Long Term Goal
To master the skills that are most valued and rewarded in the web development industry.
Non-technical or human skills I would like to develop while at Dev Academy
- Communication: To develop my ability to communicate my values and ideas confidently, and with kindness and firmness. I want to be confident that I communicate in a way that it is easy to be received accurately, and to improve understanding.
- Work ethic: I would also like to become someone I would 100% describe as hardworking and who has a strong work ethic.
- Leadership: To lead myself, to work with clarity, purpose, awareness, and engagement.
- Productivity: I want to develop the abilities necessary to produce effectively, efficiently, with grace and that reflects my best efforts.
What I expect from the facilitation team
I expect to feel safe with the facilitation team. To ask for help and support and know that I will be met with kindness, compassion and understanding. I also expect facilitators to be engaged and keep us accountable, and to be able to help when needed.

My commitments for managing the workload in this programme
If I start to get overwhelmed, I will:
- practice self-empathy
- try to formulate a plan focusing on the essentials
- go for a walk, or a nature hike
- go for a shower, sauna, float, or massage
- talk to a trusted person, e.g. my boyfriend, a facilitator
I will aim to relate with others empathically, respectfully and in ways that grow trust. I will seek to meet commitments, deadlines, standards, and others' needs by making these explicit through writing (even if just in private) and planning: breaking down the tasks, scheduling these tasks (as well as everything in life), anticipating obstacles and listing ways to overcome these obstacles. I know how I show up is highly determined by my wellbeing...
I am committed to establish healthy habits to increase my capacity to do my best in this programme:
- Be in bed between 8pm-9pm every night.
- To turn off devices and block blue light by 7pm.
- To have a hot shower by 6:30pm.
- To finish dinner by 6:00pm.
- Exercise at least 30 minutes a day or get 10,000 steps.
- Don't consume sugar, flour or vegetable oils.
- Practice nose-belly breathing to a 6-1-8 in-pause-out count for 3 minutes.
- Meditate for at least 11 minutes a day.
- Practice gratitude.
- Do Carpe Diem journaling from optimize.me
I will start with committing to practicing the sleep section starting 26 April 2022.
My Scheduling Information
I have work 2 times a week for the next two weeks, and 4 times (not my choice) during Sprint 5. Otherwise, I don’t have any time commitments, although I would like to commit to going to the gym before class with my boyfriend. Until the EDA course, I had responsibilities with taking care of my 6-year-old niece, pick ups and drop offs... but my mother will be taking care of my niece, knowing I am doing a demanding course.
